Coach Ryann Nursey enters her second season as a part of the Roswell Lady Hornet coaching staff. Last season, she and Co-Head Coach Caitlin McDonald led their freshmen team to a 13-3 record, placing 2nd in the Freshmen Regional Tournament.
A native of Orlando, FL, Coach Nursey relocated to the Atlanta area in 2006. She graduated from Boone High School in 2000. She was a four year varsity basketball letterman, playing one year at Bishop Moore HS and 3 years at Boone HS. She played the guard/forward position and was the second leading rebounder on her team. During her three years at Boone, her team advanced to the State Final Four all three years, reaching the State Championship Finals her sophomore year. Coach Nursey was also a three year track and field letterman, advancing to the Regional State Finals with her 4 x 100 team her junior year. She was also a member of the Orlando Warriors/Storm AAU team for five years, winning the Florida State Championship in 1997.
Coach Nursey graduated in 2004 from the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Sport Management. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in Recreational Studies from UF in 2007. While an undergraduate student at UF, she coached a local 11-12 year old recreation league team to an undefeated season, only to fall short in the championship game. She also served as the Head Women’s Basketball Manager at UF for 2 years, performing various duties such as team travel, film exchange, and practice/game execution. While working on her Master’s degree, she served as a Graduate Assistant for the University Athletic Association’s Compliance Department, working specifically with football and men’s and women’s basketball. Upon her relocation to Atlanta in 2006, Coach Nursey worked as an Office Assistant for the Atlanta Hawks and Thrashers for almost 2 years, working intimately with the President/CEO and basketball scouting staff.
Currently, Coach Nursey teaches 8th grade Math at Northwestern Middle School. She also attends Georgia State University where she is working towards her teaching certification in Behavior and Learning Disabilities. She has the aspiration of eventually pursuing a Doctorate degree in Education. Coach Nursey is looking forward to another exciting and successful season!
